An Interview With Stephanie of Dangerous Women Of Wrestling by Dale Pierce
1. Do you wrestle yourself or simply work from the promotional end of wrestling? My position with the Dangerous Women of Wrestling is strictly promotional as I handle the writing and sending of press releases to websites, radio and television stations. Anything that can get the company exposure I take care of.
2. Yet you are in contact with many wrestlers. What is your impression of them as a whole? Well to start, Women wrestlers are completely a different breed of animal than male wrestlers. A male wrestler will work for nothing just to be on a show. Most women will not do that. As far as my impression of them, I admire anyone who chases their dreams and do what they want to.
3. Yet you never wanted to do this yourself? I love wrestling, but not to be in the ring. I’m happy in a chair watching. I get great pride just helping out. Oh and I get paid too!
4. Okay then, tell people about the promotion you work for. Give them a bit of background on where they run and who they use? Dangerous Women of Wrestling home base is Philadelphia, PA. Normally we run Philly, Delaware, Southern New Jersey, upstate Pennsylvania and parts of Connecticut. The company has been around since 1999 and was started under a different name as an all oil wrestling company. Over the years it has underwent many changes and is commonly referred to and the women’s E.C.W. We have a lot of home grown talent on our shows like G.I. Ho, Tai Weed, Pryme Tyme Amy Lee to name a few, plus we use choice independent wrestlers like Candie, Tara, and even Alexis Laree before she went to WWE.
5. They have a webpage also, correct?
www.dangerouswomenofwrestling.com 6. They also have DVDs and other items for sale, correct? We are still working on getting all our events onto DVD. It’s a very tedious process as we have filmed over 125 live events. All our sales are processed by Highspots.com
7. You had the Blue Meanie and Jasmine sign on with you recently? Will they be regulars? I know Blue Meanie is signed to appear at New Year’s Rezzho-lution, but I don’t know anything about Jasmine. Hey do you know something that I don’t?
8. Any other incoming people, not under contract yet, you expect to see confirmed? Well I know a lot of people are hoping on G.I. Ho to be there… the original and new one. However, neither has been confirmed to date. I can see one there, but both I don’t know. If it does happen, it’s BIG news for Dangerous Women of Wrestling!
9. There have been other girl wrestling promotions over the years. What might make yours different from the ones in the past? To start we have longevity, being established in 1999 and still kicking after all these years. Dangerous Women of Wrestling were key in the development and success of WEW (Women’s Extreme Wrestling) that currently airs on In Demand Pay Per View nationally. Finally, we’re still running live events, as we plan to film for our own Pay Per View and Television show.
10. Me being an absolute pessimist, in spite of what looks to be a great idea and product, do you really think our chances of survival will be good? Yes. Wrestling is entertainment. The sooner all these wrestling people figure that out, they may make some money. This is a business and you have to treat it like so, if not you will be left broke. As for survival we outsell most independents when it came to video sales online and at our live events. T&A and wrestling… you can’t go wrong!
11. There is, I think, a big female wrestling market out there still, is there not? We don’t know how big, but we do know it’s big enough for us to make some good profits from our live events, merchandise and Pay Per Views.
12. Is it possible you might do better on a national or international level with DVD and merchandise sales, than you will at the gate for house shows? Anything is better than just being a local promotion. The Dangerous Women of Wrestling actually just signed a National / International DVD deal that will put our product in all the major chain stores, which is only step one to bringing this company off the internet and into peoples everyday lives.
13. Why did you, yourself, get involved with this particular group? I used to watch the Dangerous Women of Wrestling TV show in Philly and it just happened that one of my friends brought me to a live event and introduced me to the “bosses” at the time. I thought this company could be huge and I wanted to help any way I could!
14. I take it you have a degree in marketing or something along that line? I don’t have any degree actually, but I’ve read a lot of books and articles on it. I’m doing the best I can to get the word out there.
15. So you see possibly, big things for the group? Yes. First thing is February 2, 2006 as Dangerous Women of Wrestling presents their first live event in over a year and a half… New Year’s Rezzho-lution at the New Alhambra Entertainment Complex (former ECW arena) in South Philly. Next are more live events, National / International DVD releases, Pay Per View and a National Cable deal.
16. As of this writing, you all had a big Philadelphia card planned. Do you plan Pennsylvania as your home base? We plan to keep our base in Philadelphia, PA. We hope to run all our old areas, plus add many new ones on a regular basis.
17. Are there any specific plans or people you would like to single out and mention as noteworthy, that may have been missed in this interview so far? I would just hope that people who do not know about the company or may have prejudged the company will give us a shot and at least check out the website at
www.dangerouswomenofwrestling.com 18. Of some of the newer faces, fans may not be familiar with, whom are some to keep an eye on? I think Cristal, Hoberto and Liz Savage could all be diamonds in the rough. Time will tell. Cristal is a great high flyer and seems like she could do well technical wise. Hoberto is a new manager and plays his role well. Liz Savage used to oil wrestle for us a few times, but has since hanged up her thong and has been training professionally.
