People talk…but don’t walk it ... Slackers beware!
I sit here once again writing in disbelief as how it amazes me how people who claim they “want in” or “want to help… IN ANY WAY” and then when they are taken up on their offer and asked to do something a majority of people flake out and drop the ball. I have to say nothing anymore surprises me –especially when it comes to people! I understand that no one should be asked to do something without receiving some kind of return. A return can be money, a future consideration, a job, a favor, etc… Most of the time the person who want to help; and in general I do believe they want to help –BUT something gets in the way whether a real life episode of family/friends drama, work, kids, spouses, or what I believe either all or partial –LAZINESS. I have come to the conclusion that people just don’t won’t to do the work. THEY WANT THE REWARD –but in all honesty they don’t or can’t do the work and what is asked of them. The reward whatever it may be a spot in a company, to be involved with a project I’m working on, a favor, etc… and they want to be paid (at most times a lot more than what the actual job duty is worth). People are spoiled. Heck maybe I even spoiled them, or contributed to them being a spoiled person previously.
In the last 10 years especially, I have been associated in the music and wrestling business. Do you know how many times I have had people offer their help in a project, or show? Do you know how many people begged for “a chance”, “a shot” and how they would do ANYTHING to get their opportunity? I have given many, many opportunities, the problem is they will do anything to get their initial chance but VERY soon after they expect to be a major contributing factor in the project or show –or even feel they should be “the star” –or feel they are a “star”. All this without paying their dues, doing the “work”, pounding the pavement, getting rejected (multiple times), feeling rejected, dejected, sadness, depression, frustration, etc… --or get this “DOING THE WORK!” NO ONE EVER SAID LIFE IS EASY –it’s not! My life has not been easy by no means, no matter how easy I may make it look --I've had much practice under the gun and have gained a plethora of experience in my journeys! I know it may look easy or things just happen or happened to me and for me, BUT it has never been easy and plans DON’T go as planned! I guess I am upset that people who are around me don’t do the work –especially with all the work I do in the background and in public. I expect people to work as hard as I do.
I do apologize if this commentary affects you directly and indifferently, but this is my reality from my experiences with dozens of individuals and dealing with you directly– and if you think this is about you –IT IS! This piece is not about just one person, or incident, this is for a few dozen people. I apologize that you don’t have the work ethic that I do. You don’t have the work ethic you should or that people expect you to have. I am sorry I have put the highest expectations on you and that you do NOT go the extra mile –you don’t even get started! You say you want it, you say you want to make it –but you need to look at yourself in the mirror. How would you feel if you were me and had these experiences time and time again?
I give plenty of chances and opportunities (past and present). I expect different things from different people and different tasks –but if you offered to help I gave you a job I thought you could complete. Most of the help I need could range from data entry, online marketing, searching for information, posting pictures, myspace, helping set up a live event, flyer distribution, etc… That’s another thing, the things I ask of people who want a shot is nothing unreasonable, especially since I have done every aspect and would never ask anyone do something I could not do, have not done, or am currently doing and need help. If that was the case I would hire someone to complete that task.
Now I ask is it any wonder why I won’t be calling you to be involved when things begin to take off? Would you want people who begged, or volunteered to be involved around you and involved when they couldn’t complete the tasks they asked for? I guess this is a perfect “screening process” as when things being to rock n roll, I know who I DON’T want around me, to have my back or working for me.
I am looking forward to meeting new people who really want to be successful like myself. I look forward to people who want to contribute on any level, especially ones who will contribute and not suck the energy out of me or the project(s), people who will do anything to help and go up and beyond the call of duty without being asked. I want people who will actually do the work! I want people that don’t give excuses, but give results! Now that’s who I want on my team! People like me! Male or female. People who will put up, do the work, enjoy it, and do it in harmony!
When things start going and you see we are off to the races don’t wonder why I didn’t contact you, I just told you why exactly above. YOU DIDN’T DO THE WORK! Ask yourself what did promise or want to do –what did I wish to be involved in? What tasks or job duty did you not complete –or even start for that fact that you said you would! And if you really did BELIEVE… you would’ve done what you said you would do. Things start kicking; trust me YOU WILL BE KICKING YOURSELF!
If you really want to get involved and are not afraid to do the work and go the distance, and if you are looking for some exciting opportunities then email at geckomiami@aol.com
